Bringing home a new kitten is one of lifeās most joyful moments ā and at Winterfell Cats, we want that first weekend to be stress-free for both you and your new furry family member. Siberians are intelligent, affectionate, and highly adaptable, but a little preparation can go a long way in helping them settle in quickly.
Whether youāre a first-time kitten parent or a seasoned cat lover, here are our top tips to make your kittenās homecoming as smooth as possible.
š” Prepare Your Home Before Pickup Day
Just like baby-proofing a house, kitten-proofing helps keep curious paws safe:
Secure loose wires and cordsĀ ā Siberian kittens are playful explorers and may chew things they shouldnāt.
Create a safe, quiet spaceĀ ā Set up a cozy room with a bed, litter box, water, and food. This helps your kitten adjust gradually before exploring the rest of the house.
Have supplies readyĀ ā Use the Winterfell Kitten Supplies ListĀ to ensure you have the right food, litter, scratching posts, and toys on hand.
š Plan Pickup or Delivery in Advance
Our kittens are ready for pickup at our home in Apex, NC on designated weekends. If you canāt make the trip, we also offer trusted courier and flight-nanny services. Make sure to:
Schedule your pickup timeĀ ahead of the weekend to avoid long waits and ensure a smooth process.
Bring a secure carrierĀ ā kittens cannot leave without one for safety reasons.
Plan for travel timeĀ so your kitten isnāt left in the car or carrier longer than necessary.
𩺠Schedule Your First Vet Visit
Each Winterfell kitten goes home with two of the three FVRCP vaccines already completed and a health check from our veterinarian. To keep them on track:
Schedule a vet appointment within 48 hoursĀ of bringing them home ā this confirms their excellent health and allows you to ask any questions.
Book the third FVRCP vaccineĀ for about three weeks after pickup to complete the series.
Consider pet insuranceĀ early to help cover unexpected accidents or illnesses (chewed cords and poisonous plant mishaps arenāt included in genetic guarantees!).
ā¤ļø Give Them Time to Adjust
Your new kitten has just left their littermates and the only home theyāve ever known ā so itās normal for them to need a little time to warm up.
Start with one roomĀ to help them feel safe before exploring the rest of your house.
Offer gentle interactionĀ ā sit on the floor, speak softly, and let them come to you.
Encourage playĀ with feather wands or small toys to build confidence and trust.
